Seaton Ross, East Riding of Yorkshire
Mr. A. Wielkopolski
St. Helen’s Farm
Pegasus Environmental was asked to advise on a scheme for the erection of a single wind turbine reaching a tip height of 77m and with a maximum rated capacity of 900kW for a duration of 25 years benefiting from the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) programme which will see renewable energy fed into the grid a well as consumed on site, thus representing a contribution to the UK’s renewable energy targets.
As well as protecting natural resources, the development proposals were to assist with high energy yields produced as part of St. Helen’s Farm operations where in excess of 50% of the UK goats milk is pasteurised and packed.
A compendium of environmental reports were produced including ecology, archaeology, Landscape and Visual, Aviation, Telecommunications and Transport Reports. As part of the aviation assessment during the pre-application stage the CAA, MOD and NATS were all consulted and responded with no objection to the scheme. However, once the application was submitted both NATS and MOD objected with issues not raised during the pre-app stage. The MOD objected as a result of effects on radar at RAF Linton and NATS as a result of conflicts on safeguarding criteria. Pegasus worked very hard with the project aviation consultants to propose solutions to overcome the objections which resulted in a unanimous decision to approve the application.
