REG Windpower
Sancton Hill
As a result of a previously unsuccessful planning application, Pegasus Environmental was initially commissioned to produce an addendum to an Environmental Assessment in support of a new planning application for 5 wind turbines (height to hub approximately 60 metre).
The addendum comprised of a Landscape and Visual Assessment of key cultural heritage assets. In consultation with the Local Planning Authority it was agreed that all Grade I, II* and II Listed Buildings, Scheduled Ancient Monuments and Conservation Areas within a 5 kilometre radius of the proposed windfarm should be assessed together with Registered Parks and Gardens within 15 kilometres.
Of those cultural heritage assets identified, 22 were classified as being of key importance and were assessed through the production of a wireframe and photomontage. The Environmental Team were able to produce the wireframes and photomontages by using the Resoft Windfarm software.
As part of our role as Environmental Consultants, the client asked us to produce an outline Environmental Management Plan for the site. The Plan would help to demonstrate where the opportunities for environmental and socio-economic benefits would occur as and when the Sancton Hill proposals were implemented. The Plan included an analysis of the existing site and surrounding area and included opportunities to improve resources related to hedges, tree cover, recreation, new habitat creation art and interpretation. The Environmental Management Plan was used as a consultation tool with the Local Planning Authority and key stakeholders.
