Lower Shenley

Pegasus Landscape Design was appointed by Turner and Townsend Project Management and Bournville Architects to provide landscape design advice for the schematic and detailed design and implementation of a 160 unit model residential community in Bournville, Birmingham.  This new residential scheme is the flagship development in the Bournville Village Trust portfolio, and included the comprehensive redevelopment of existing housing with new, bespoke housing designed by Bournville Architects and complemented with a new landscape infrastructure.

Based on the concept of home-zone designs, the new landscape infrastructure included the retention of mature trees, the enhancement of established street frontages and the creation of several areas where pedestrian priority and safety was paramount.  The hard and soft landscape design was developed accordingly and incorporated opportunities for informal play and accommodation of the requisite number of car parking spaces.

Several key issues were resolved throughout the project including highways and service requirements; complex site levels with regards to access; and the design requirements for the Code for Sustainable Homes.  Following planning consent, the development commenced on site in autumn 2008 and was completed in 2010.
