Howton Farm

Pegasus Planning was instructed to assist with the Howton Solar Farm project, on behalf of solar developer Low Carbon Solar, to provide both planning and environmental services that ultimately led to Planning Permission being granted on the 18th April 2011.

The Howton Solar Farm lies within a locally designated Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV), being visible from both the immediate and wider context, together with onsite ecological and arboricultural characteristics that required specific attention.

A comprehensive Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment was produced by Pegasus Environmental to address the AGLV designation and a site specific arboricultural report was also produced to justify the proposal in terms of existing natural features. Simultaneously, an Ecologist was sub-contracted to survey the site and development proposal and produce the necessary specialist statement.

Despite resistance from the local population, the community ‘drop in’ session, and consultation strategy assisted in overcoming potential objections and facilitated the planning permission.

Pegasus Planning Group continues to work alongside Low Carbon Solar with their continued expansion within the solar and the renewable sector generally.
