Dunstable

Pegasus Environmental was commissioned by Trenport Investments Limited and Cemex to provide the landscape expertise for an urban extension in northwest Dunstable to accord with the aspirations of the Bedfordshire and Luton Strategic Green Infrastructure Plan and the Luton and South Bedfordshire Green Space Strategy.

A part of the Bedfordshire and Luton Strategic Green Infrastructure Plan, the site falls within Area 9 (The Chalk Arc Corridor) of 11 identified strategic areas, which includes the Maiden Bower Hillfort (a Scheduled Monument) adjacent to the site’s western boundary. A sensitive landscape approach to the proposed development was therefore required to produce a living environment of the highest standard with a clear and recognisable identity that respects the setting of the Maiden Bower Hillfort.

The Environmental team undertook a Landscape and Visual Assessment together with a tree and hedgerow survey in preparation for Pegasus Environmental to produce a Green Infrastructure and Heritage Management Strategy and a Green Infrastructure Management Plan for a 20 year period.

Both the Management Strategy and Plan required Pegasus to coordinate specialist external consultants with ecological and archaeological expertise. Integrated within these documents were a series of conceptual designs for public open space, an overall strategic landscape masterplan, supporting graphics and management/maintenance schedules and specifications.
