Pegasus Group played a big part in submitting plans for the highly anticipated proposed development ‘Plasdŵr’ on behalf of Redrow Homes. The scheme will be built on 900 acres of land bordering Radyr, Fairwater, St Fagans and Danescourt.

The ‘garden city’ scheme, located in the north west of Cardiff, could see around 7,000 new homes built over the next 20 years, with 30% of the homes being affordable housing.

Plasdŵr will challenge existing ways of working and thinking, to push the boundaries of residential led design quality to create highly desirable new districts for North West Cardiff and help address the capital’s housing shortage. The proposed scheme will also join the other desirable Cardiff districts as a place people will want to live and as a destination worth visiting with new shopping amenities, four new primary schools and a secondary school, leisure centres, pubs and restaurants.

Planning applications for a first phase of 920 homes on two separate sites has been submitted with Cardiff council. They will meet to outline the proposed project with the Welsh Government planning inspectorate team as part of their considerations of the Cardiff council’s local development plan (LDP) early in the New Year. If the development is agreed it is envisaged that work could start in 2016.

Project director for Plasdŵr at Redrow Homes, Wayne Rees said: “Plasdŵr will combine a historical countryside setting with the convenience of being on the outskirts of a capital city. Cardiff desperately needs a mix of new housing on a large scale, but creating 21st century garden city on the outskirts of our capital represents a much bigger opportunity than just providing homes.

Our vision for Plasdŵr is to take the principles of the garden city movement – sustainable community living, plenty of beautiful open spaces, self-contained yet well-connected – and create a place where current and future generations will be proud to live, work and play.”
