Working with the Planning and Landscape Design teams, we provided urban design and architectural services for a Hybrid Planning Application for a sensitive mixed use scheme on the edge of the historic village of Nether Stowey in Somerset. The project comprised the change of use of a storage building (use class B8) to light industrial use (use class B1), change of use and conversion of former dairy buildings to form 7 bespoke residential units to a high architectural standard and outline planning application for the erection of up to 50 new residential units, new access on to the A39, associated public open space, landscaping and associated infrastructure. The project received overwhelming support from the Parish Council and officers.
Adjacent to a Grade II Listed Building and conservation area, the design of the dwellings has been influenced by the traditional architecture of the area integrating the development into its setting and providing an attractive place to live. The quality of the architecture has been safeguarded through the detailed design of the conversion of the remaining stone dairy buildings identified early in the design process as heritage assets to the site.
